Obtaining a licence

Licensing Tiers

Organisations using the PFF Materials are required to hold a licence as set out in this guide. Licensing ensures we can continue to offer free resources and support for individuals and communities worldwide, while protecting the integrity and impact of the Plastic Free July brand.

If you or your organisation want to use the PFF Materials for any purpose, you must be licenced to do as follows:

  • Self-assessment: Before using any PFF Materials, you must determine which licence tier is applicable to you or your organisation, based on the intended use, audience size and geographic scope – see above.
  • Free use: If you or your organisations meet the requirements set out above for a Tier 1 licence, you may use the PFF Materials without charge, but subject to the Plastic Free July Licence Terms and Conditions available at Licence Terms.
  • Purchasing a licence: If one of the licence tiers described above is applicable, then to use the PFF Materials you must agree to the Licence Terms and pay the fee specified above by completing registration at https://www.plasticfreejuly.org/licensing.
  • Expiry of licence: You will then be licenced for a maximum of 1 year, expiring on 30 April. Regardless of when you purchase a licence, it will end upon 30 April and you must then obtain a new licence if you want to use any PFF Materials beyond 30 April – no pro rated licence fees will be considered.

Not sure which tier is right for you?

If you’re unsure, we’re happy to help. We can work with you to assess your intended campaign based on factors like audience reach, channel mix, media exposure, and promotional value to determine the most appropriate licence.

Contact us at partnerships@plasticfreejuly.org and we’ll help you determine the right fit for your planned campaign.

Using our logo

Use of the Plastic Free July logo is not automatically included in the licence tiers described above. Because it is a registered trademark, any use of the logo, including in the PFF Materials, requires separate written approval.

If you would like to use the logo:

  • Submit a request to partnerships@plasticfreejuly.org, including a sample of how and where the logo will appear
  • Approval is based on brand alignment, messaging integrity, and visual application

Note: Use of the name “Plastic Free July™” in text form is covered by your licence — logo use is a separate permission.

Although the size of the plastic waste problem is frightening, the numbers tell us that small steps can make a big difference.
